چکیده

sonnel in 6 Connecticut communities were trained in an asthma-management program entitled “Easy Breathing,” which was based on NAEPP guidelines. Quality parameters encompassed enrollment census, relevant use of anti-inflammatory medications, and provision of a written action plan. Utilization of medical services was confirmed for Medicaid-covered children and compared by using relative rates and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) before and after enrollment.

Genetic variations in nitric oxide synthase and arginase influence exhaled nitric oxide levels in children.

BACKGROUND Exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is a biomarker of airway inflammation. In the nitric oxide (NO) synthesis pathway, nitric oxide synthases (encoded by NOS1, NOS2A, and NOS3) and arginases (encoded by ARG1 and ARG2) compete for L-arginine. Although FeNO levels are higher in children with asthma/allergy, influence of these conditions on the relationships between variations in these genes an...

Effect of Neutrophils on Nitric Oxide Production from Stimulated Macrophages

Background: During the initial phase of an infection, there is an upregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase in the macrophages for the production of nitric oxide. This is followed by the recruitment of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophils) which release arginase. Arginase competes with inducible nitric oxide synthase for a common substrate L-arginine. Objective: To investigate whethe...

O-8: Study of Peroxynitrite Levels, Arginase Activity and NO Synthase Activity in Seminal Plasma of Iraqi Leukocytospermic Patients

Background Leukocytes linked directly and indirectly to reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation. Although leukocytospermia is defined as the presence of ≥1×106 white blood cells/mL (WBC/mL) in a semen sample, the presence of less than 1×106 WBC/mL (low-level leukocytospermia) still can produce a detectable amount of ROS, impairing sperm function and lowering the chances of pregnancy. Low concen...

L-Arginine Deficiency in Cystic Fibrosis Lung Disease

Cystic fibrosis affects multiple organs but lung disease remains the major determinant of patient morbidity and mortality. Cystic fibrosis lung disease is characterized by chronic infection and inflammation. The amino acid L-arginine is substrate for both nitric oxide synthases and arginases. The activity of arginase in sputum is increased while the production of nitric oxide is reduced in the ...

Arginase Activity and Its Effects on Pathogenesis of Leishmania

Leishmaniasis is a tropical parasitic disease that has become a major health challenge in many countries of the world. Not only has not been found any effective vaccine or treatment for the disease eradication, but also the advent of drug resistance is also increasing. Therefore, it is vital to take a precise attention to the physiochemical cycles of the Leishmania parasite and to identify i...
